Container chassis, also called intermodal chassis, is a type of trailer with 2 axles designed to securely carry an intermodal container. Chassis are used by truckers to deliver containers between ports, railyards, container depots, and shipper facilities. This type of trucking is called drayage.
20/40 Triaxle Combo, as you might guess from the name, has three axles. More specifically, it has three axles grouped together at the rear of the trailer. This combo chassis brings versatility to our business. It can handle one heavy 20-foot container, one 40-foot container, or two empty 20-foot containers. Generally, a triaxle chassis is needed to carry 20ft containers above 36,000 lbs, or 40ft containers above 44,000 lbs.
A flatbed is a type of trailer where the body is entirely flat, a level ‘bed’ with no sides or roof. This allows for quick and easy loading of goods, and is used to transport loads that are not delicate or vulnerable to rain. It is ideal for use in transferring distressed containers from the port to a transload facility.
A stepdeck is similar to a flatbed, but features a lowered deck height. A stepdeck features a raised step at the front, where the trailer attaches to the fifth wheel. A stepdeck is useful when transporting a distressed or damaged 40 high cube container from the port for delivery or transload.
